In December 2017, McLaren Automotive declassified Senna supercar, named after the legendary Brazilian racer Ayrton Senna, who, in favor of the British team in Formula 1, won the championship in 1988, 1990 and 1991.
McLaren Senna 2018 was developed over the past few years – its prototype was code-named P15. Ready for the release of the car got swift lines of the body and a developed aerodynamic body kit made of carbon fiber with active elements in front and behind.
In particular, the McLaren Senna was equipped with an anterior splitter, numerous flaps and a massive rear wing. According to the manufacturer, these elements provide an unprecedented level of downforce.
Admission to the salon is carried out through unusual doors with a top hinge. They are made of carbon fiber and have an inset of glass at the bottom. The side windows in the doors consist of two parts: a fixed top and an opening bottom. As an option, the latter can be replaced with carbon inserts, but in the cockpit it will become noticeably darker.
Interior design McLaren Senna is made in a minimalist style with a wide use of carbon fiber. Here, the most lightweight bucket seats are installed, and the buttons for opening doors, windows and starting the engine are located on the ceiling. Behind the seats there is a small storage compartment, but only a pair of racing helmets and accompanying outfits can fit into it.
In the cabin is a simple-looking, but stylish three-spoke steering wheel. There are no buttons or levers on it. The car is equipped with the McLaren Folding Driver Display, and you can control the auto settings and view various information from a large vertically oriented display of the information system.
Being built on the ultra-light platform of the 720S model, the rear-wheel-drive hypercar Maclaren Senna weighs only 1,198 kg, which makes it the easiest road model in the history of the British brand. In the movement of the coupe leads a 4.0-liter V8 engine with two turbines, which, working in conjunction with a seven-speed transmission with two clutches, develops 800 hp. and 800 Nm.
Representatives of McLaren Automotive do not disclose the dynamic characteristics of Senna, but without much modesty call it the most extreme road car in the world. In the press, it is believed that the supercar is able to accelerate from one place to a hundred in less than 2.5 seconds, developing a speed up to a maximum of 320 km / h.
To ensure good controllability at high speeds, the revised version of the independent suspension from the hypercar P1 , which uses hydraulic adaptive shock absorbers and stabilizers of lateral stability, is called for. This suspension in the company was named RaceActive Chassis Control II (RCC II).
To familiar models P1 Comfort, Sport and Track, Senna added one more – Race. The latter understates the clearance by a few millimeters, providing a lower center of gravity, and the suspension thus becomes more rigid.
Plus, the British supercar received “the most advanced brakes in the world”, which use carbon discs and modern technology from motorsport. On the wheels of the car it was decided to install tires Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R. These tires were developed specifically for the track, but were approved for use on public roads.
The world premiere of the new McLaren Seena will be held in March at the Geneva Motor Show 2018. The models will be released at the Woking plant in the third quarter of the same year. In total, only 500 models will be built at a price starting from £ 750,000 per car, but all of them have already been sold for pre-orders.
