At the Auto Show in Detroit in 2017 premiere of the Toyota Camry in the new V70 body for the North American market. Later it became known that the European version of the model, which will be sold, will receive similar looks and interior, but a few other engines. The new Toyota Camry 2018 (photo, price) is impressive with its bold design, creating a sporting mood. In the US, the car is available in two design options – common for L, LE and XLE trim sets and aggressive for SE and XSE versions. The latter, unfortunately, does not appear. The first received a truly large grille on the entire width of the front bumper with horizontal ribs, and the second is distinguished by a bumper with side air intakes, a large black glossy grid in the grilles, a small spoiler on the boot lid, a diffuser in the rear bumper and four round exhaust pipe fittings. Compared to its predecessor, Toyota Camry 2018 in the new body received a different lighting equipment, a more squat silhouette, muscular wings, heavily overhang rear posts, smoothly shifting into the trunk lid and rear-view mirrors on the legs.
In the cabin, Toyota Camry V70 immediately strikes a little deployed to the driver asymmetric center console with 8.0-inch screen multimedia system Entune 3.0. The company promised a high-quality interior decoration using soft types of plastic and expensive materials. In front of the driver, a new steering wheel and instrument panel with a large 7.0-inch display are housed, and a 10-inch projection display on the windshield is available for a surcharge for the model. The front seats are now located 25 mm lower than before, and the rear seats are 30 mm.
At the heart of the new Toyota Camry V70 lay the global modular platform TNGA. Its use allowed to reduce the center of gravity (ground clearance reduced from 155 to 145 mm), increase the stiffness of the body, and replace the rear pillars McPherson on the double-link suspension. According to the company representatives, this car was created from scratch. As power units for a sedan in the States, three engines are offered. The base is a completely new 2.5-liter “four” A25A-FKS with 206 hp. (249 Nm) with a combined fuel injection system (into the intake manifold and directly into the cylinders). It combines with the 8-band Direct Shift, and on the XSE version this engine produces 209 forces and 252 Nm of torque. The average flow, compared with the previous 180-horsepower engine of a similar volume, was reduced from 8.7 to 7.4 l/100 km. Not least due to the possibility of the unit to switch to the economical Atkinson cycle at low loads. At the top of the scale is an upgraded 3.5-liter “six” 2GR-FKS with the fuel injection system D-4S. This engine produces 305 hp. and 362 Nm thrust (before it was 272 hp and 336 Nm), while the consumption decreased to 9.0 liters per hundred to 9.8 before, and it also works in conjunction with the eight-speed automatic transmission. And there is a hybrid modification of the THS II, which included the above-mentioned 2.5-liter engine for 178 hp, a 120-hp (202 Nm) electric motor, a 1.6 kWh nickel-metal hydride battery (moved from the luggage compartment under rear sofa) and electromechanical variator of a new generation, which in Sport mode can simulate the operation of a six-speed automatic. The total output of such an installation is 211 hp, then on the hybrid of the previous generation there were 203 “horses”. The overall length of the Toyota Camry 2018-2019 is 4,859 mm (+9), the wheelbase has grown to 2,824 (+ 49), the width is 1,839 (+ 19), and the height has been reduced to 1,440 (-30). The volume of the trunk of the sedan is 428 liters (- 8 liters). However, on the machines for the market, the basic engines will remain the same – we are talking about the engines 2.0 6AR-FSE (150 hp) and 2.5 2AR-FE (181 hp), both will keep the 6-band automatic. But the senior unit will still be new, but for sure it will be defused from 305 to 249 forces.
