Volkswagen has prepared a “charged” hatchback Polo GTI of a new generation for participation in the world championship on rally WRC. The press release notes that the racing five-door was built according to the requirements of the R5 category, and its homologation will be held by the FIA in the summer of 2018.
Outside, the VW Polo GTI R 2018 differs from the original with a special body painting and stickers. On the roof of the five-door there is an air intake, a wing appeared on the stern, wings were noticeably enlarged, and standard bumpers were replaced with modified ones.
The car is driven by a 1.6-liter “turbo-quater”, which, working in conjunction with a five-speed sequential gearbox, develops 272 hp.
The all-wheel drive 1 320 kg hatchback can accelerate from one place to another in 4.1 seconds (- 2.6 seconds compared to the front-wheel-drive 200-horsepower Polo GTI). The maximum speed of the rally modification was not disclosed. The sports debut of the Volkswagen Polo GTI R will take place in the fall of 2018.
