To the Geneva Motor Show in 2018, the French prepared the Peugeot 508 of the second generation, which is different from the predecessor, not only from the outside and inside, but also in its market positioning.
First, from the classic sedan, the new model Peugeot 508 2018-2019 (photo) turned into a lift with a sloping roof, and, secondly, the company decided to make the car more premium to compete with major German players.
Outside the Peugeot 508 in the new body stands out with a swift silhouette with fashionable on the sidewalls. Here, frameless doors are used, and the diameter of the wheel disks varies from 16 to 19 inches.
The head optics is complemented by the “fangs” of diode navigation lights (the solution is clearly peeped at Renault Talisman), the company’s radiator grille flaunts a fashionable pattern, and the emblem “508” appeared on the hood in the manner of the classic Peugeot 504.
The trunk lid on the Peugeot 508 II is distinguished by the presence of a small spoiler, and the cunning lanterns are located on a black strip along the entire width of the car. Depending on the version, the elevator can have rectangular branch pipes of the exhaust system, a pair of doubles on the left, or two round on the edges.
In the five-door salon, the front panel is made in the i-Cockpit architecture with a small diameter steering wheel, a dashboard above it and a central console that is slightly deployed to the driver.
The instrument panel here is an electronic screen with a diagonal of 12.3 inches, and the screen of the multimedia system, depending on the configuration, can be 8.0 or 10.0 “. The decoration uses expensive materials, PSA even replaced a number of suppliers for those that fulfill orders for the brands of the German troika.
Peugeot 508 2018 in the new body is built on a modular platform EMP2, with here in all versions the rear multi-link suspension is used instead of the beam, which by default is used on other models of the number built on this architecture.
Surprisingly, if most cars with a change of generation become larger, then the “five hundred and eighth” in terms of overall dimensions turned out to be slightly more compact than its predecessor. The length was reduced to 4,750 mm (-80), the wheelbase was 2,790 (-27), the height was reduced to 1,400 (-60).
The volume of the luggage lift lifted up to 487 liters under the shelf (before it was 473), and with the backs folded back, the compartment size is 1,537. The company also worked on the aerodynamics of the model, has managed to reduce the drag coefficient to 0.26.
The presence of frameless doors and a wide luggage space required the engineers to seriously strengthen the body, however, the total weight of the car was reduced by an average of 70 kg. The design increases the number of hot-stamping steels, the hood and front fenders are made of aluminum, and the trunk lid is made of thermoplastic.
As powertrains for the Peugeot 508 2018-2019 (specifications) are offered a 1.6-liter petrol turbo engine PureTech capacity of 180 and 225 hp. (GT version), plus a new 130-liter 130-hp BlueHDi diesel engine, as well as a diesel unit with a capacity of 2.0 for 160 and 180 “horses.”
The drive of all versions is exclusively front, and the engines are combined with the 8-band Aisin automatic machine, except that the initial diesel can be ordered with mechanics. In addition, the gasoline modifications of the model can boast of the presence in the base of electronically controlled dampers, which are also offered as top-end diesel engines.
Packages and prices
There is no information on the trim levels and prices yet, but the cost will certainly be considerable. The production of machines was set up at a French factory in Mulhouse.
Among the numerous options for the car are available fully LED optics, Nappa leather interior upholstery, and Alcantara, front seats with electric drive and massage (eight airbags in the seat), Focal audio system, wireless charging for smartphones, panoramic roof and panoramic view cameras.
