Serial production of the model at the Asaka automobile plant in Uzbekistan started in August 2001. In the local market, the car was sold as Chevrolet Matiz, and for export (including Russia) it was supplied as Daewoo. Initially, Matiz was available exclusively with a 0.8-liter engine with a capacity of 51 hp, but then GM GM assembled cars with a 64-liter unit and automatic transmission. The truth from the latter in due course had to be abandoned because of the introduction of more stringent economics.
