Fuel additives: the types of additives and their choice

Currently there are more than twenty different major categories of fuel additives, each of which consists of dozens of different compositions. The main purpose of the compositions – the improvement of the processes associated with the combustion of the fuel that reduces emissions. Some of them are introduced at the stage of fuel production, others – designed for independent use by motorists.

Types of additives.

Many of the additives contain highly toxic compounds, which are part antiknock compounds, antioxidants and promoters. Naturally, in retail stores such additives is not received and introduced into another fuel refineries. Cleaning additives for gasoline and diesel fuel producers usually do not use. Therefore, domestic motorists decide which of the commercially-available additives used and how to do it regularly.

Choice of safe additives.

Currently no fuel additives on the market is not received (it oxidizes and loses its properties). If you are “lucky” to buy low-quality gasoline, then improve it with the help of additives will not succeed. Harmful additives.

These additives include agents that reduce fuel consumption (typically promised that savings of 30%). They are available in tablet form based on naphthalene, although the package is not specified. Such additives are clearly harmful to the fuel system of the car.
Most of these “miracle means” apply the method of network marketing. They are advertised mostly on the Internet. However, apart from some savings on fuel, they quickly destroy the parts of the engine and fuel system of any car.

Recommended gasoline additive.

Gasoline additives are available separately for carburetor and injection engines. For gasoline additive characterized by de-icing properties. They contain substances that bind water, which can adversely affect the working surface of the carburetor. These additives should be added every few thousand kilometers.
Universal fuel additives have wider application, cleaning the fuel system and valve. It should be noted that with the additives can be cleaned only to the intake valves of the cylinders. However, due to better combustion of the fuel mixture in the exhaust valves will be less carbon deposits formed (although they are already available and are not removed).

Additives for diesel.
