The history of the fourth generation flagship sedan BMW 7 E65 has its origins in 1997, when American Chris Bangle, who served at the time the position of chief designer of the Bavarian automaker, held a meeting with a group of designers from DesignworksUSA. At the meeting, he announced his vision for the future of the car and asked local designers to develop his ideas based on their own designs. As a result, won by Adrian van Hooydonk work, which subsequently was used to create the next generation sedan.
The first official presentation of the BMW 7 E65 took place at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2001. Specially for BMW 7 E65 we developed two eight-cylinder engine. First (735i) is a 3.6-liter engine, which develops power of 272 hp, while the second (745i) – 4,4-liter engine with 333 hp Furthermore, in line engines present several power units working volume from 3.0 to 6.0 liters. A few months later the Germans introduced a modification E67 760Li High Security, and in the spring model E66 730Li received equipment package Sport Package. But this did not stop in the BMW and the autumn 7 Series sedans received adaptive headlights, Bluetooth, iDrive system and automatic climate control system with tow-definition fogging.
In spring 2005 the BMW E65 family cars have undergone a restyling. The manufacturer is not only updated the design of the machine, making a more refined sedan and sporty, but also presented several options for new engines. In addition, changes were suspension and brakes, as well as the design of the front and rear bumpers. At the end of 2006, made its debut on the market modification Hydrogen (E68), which became the first hydrogen luxury saloon class.
