Before the opening of the Geneva Motor Show in 2018, the jury of the contest “European Car of the Year” announced its results – this time the winner was the new compact crossover Volvo XC40, which brought the first victory in the history of the Swedish brand. Parketnik noticeably pulled away from his pursuers, gaining 325 points, the second place was occupied by the hatchback Seat Ibiza (242 points), the third place was occupied by the BMW 5-Series (G30) (226 points). Recall that the jury consists of 60 journalists from 23 European countries. At the intermediate stage of the contest 37 new or seriously updated cars are selected, of which up to the finals reach seven applicants. Then each of the members distributes his 25 points at least between five applicants, and one model cannot be awarded more than ten.
Following the list of three prize winners this time, the following cars were placed:
KIA Stinger (204 points)
Citroen C3 Aircross (171 points)
Audi A8 (D5) (169 points)
Alfa Romeo Stelvio (163 points)
Recall that last year the winner was the Peugeot 3008.
